Post-Concert Celebration with Emanuel Ax

by Casey Oelkers, Director of Development

Concert sponsors, leadership donors, board members and other invited guests celebrated at receptions after the March 20-22 concerts with Music Director John DeMain and guest pianist Emanuel “Manny” Ax. John and Manny have collaborated numerous times throughout their careers and had fun reminiscing during the Friday and Saturday reception remarks. They expressed a desire to collaborate again in the future or, as John DeMain said, “Maybe I can just come hear you perform!” to which Manny replied, “Or I can just come hear you conduct!” The mutual admiration was palpable.

Continuing a new element of our reception programs started during our 100th anniversary season, Executive Director Robert Reed introduced members of the woodwind section (flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons). Guests had the opportunity to meet several of the talented MSO musicians who performed the beautiful and virtuosic solo woodwind passages in works by Strauss, Mozart, and Respighi at these concerts.

Post-concert receptions are open to concert sponsors, leadership donors and MSO board members. Other specific constituencies and individuals may receive occasional invitations throughout the season.
