Ravishing Rhapsody — Olga Kern

Anticipate another mesmerizing performance from one of the greatest exponents of Russia’s greatest music. The Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini may be the most-listened-to piano favorite of all time, while Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica” is an important landmark in the transition between the Classical period and the Romantic era. Our 21/22 Overture Concert Organ opens with a performance by our Principal Organist Greg Zelek. Widor’s Sixth Organ Symphony is one of his most famous — the five-movement masterpiece includes two of his most performed movements of all of his symphonies. Plus, experience Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Satie’s Je Te Veux, and a transcription of Elgar’s Nimrod from his Enigma Variations in reflection of the challenging past year.

MSOL Fall Luncheon

Join the Madison Symphony Orchestra League for a Fall Luncheon at Blackhawk Country Club at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 29. The musical guest will be a Final Forte winner from last year, Sophia Jiang. The cost is $25/person and includes lunch. Guests are welcome! Attendees will be required to wear a mask when not eating and show proof of vaccination upon entry. Individuals or groups will be socially distanced.

Magic of Music Lunch

Join November MSO Guest Artist Thomas Mesa at Overture Hall on Friday, November 12 for an in-depth look at musical topics over a delicious meal! Your $30 ticket includes your meal and gratuity. Attendees will be required to wear a mask when not eating and show proof of vaccination upon entry. Individuals or groups will be socially distanced. The reservation deadline is Friday, October 29, 2021.

con vivo’s Beethoven Birthday Bash

Saturday, October 9
con vivo!…music with life, invites you to their live chamber music concert, “Beethoven Birthday Bash,” a celebration of the great master’s 250th birthday! Tickets for the concert are available at the door: general admission $20 and $15 for students and seniors. The concert will include Beethoven’s Theme and Variations on “Ode to Joy” for solo organ, the Quintet for piano and winds, and the enchanting Septet for stings and winds. con vivo! will be following the current Dane County and CDC recommendations for large group indoor gatherings. The large main sanctuary will be used for this concert where there is plenty of space for social distancing. Mask use and vaccination will be required for audience members. Just Bach Monthly Concert
Luther Memorial Church, Madison

Just Bach is a monthly concert series in Madison, celebrating the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Founded to share the immense range of Bach’s vocal and instrumental repertoire with the Madison community at large, Just Bach features musicians — including several MSO musicians — who play on period instruments using historically-informed performance practice, bringing the music to life in the manner and style that Bach intended. Concerts will be in-person and recorded but not live-streamed; the recorded concert video will be posted on the Just Bach YouTube channel on the Sunday afternoon following the concert. In the highlands of Scotland, Lucia is deeply in love with Edgardo, whose family are sworn enemies of her clan. Her brother rips them apart and convinces Lucia to marry another man, but neither the wedding ceremony nor the wedding night go according to plan. Donizetti’s extraordinary music tells a story of longing and betrayal, of love and despair, making it one of the world’s most celebrated operas, and a wonderful way to re-enter the theater.
