SEPTEMBER 18, 2018 Virtuoso Greg Zelek opens the 2018-2019 season as the Madison Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Organist and Curator of MSO’s Overture Concert Organ. His exciting program features “organ favorites” by Vierne, Bach, Franck and more. Join Madison’s premier organist in a colorful display of artistry and skill in Overture Hall.
Overture Concert Organ Series: Paul Jacobs
OCTOBER 23, 2018 Paul Jacobs, Grammy-winning artist and established member of the Juilliard School Organ Department made history performing Bach’s organ works in their entirety — over an 18-hour period. The former mentor and teacher of MSO’s Principal Greg Zelek will bring MSO’s magnificent Overture Concert Organ to life when he makes his Madison debut with an all-Bach program.
Overture Concert Organ Series: Chelsea Chen
FEBRUARY 19, 2019 Chelsea Chen is a highly accomplished organist and composer; her work, albeit classical, is expanded upon with inflections of her own compositions, based on Asian folksongs. Chen’s Overture Hall debut features her original Taiwanese Suite, plus works by Grieg, Holst’s The Planets, and more. Experience the nuances of her lively and personalized style brought to life on the Mighty Klais organ.
Overture Concert Organ Series: Greg Zelek and Thomas Mesa
APRIL 16, 2019 Cellist Thomas Mesa and Principal Organist Greg Zelek close MSO’s Overture Concert Organ season with Beethoven’s variations on Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Beau Soir by Debussy, Bach’s Prelude from Cello Suite No. 2 in D minor, and “Fiddle” Fugue in D minor, Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso, Widor’s Toccatta from Symphony for Organ, No. 5, a Serenade by Schubert, and Hadyn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major.
