Trumpeter Caleb Hudson has made a name for himself as one of the most virtuosic trumpet soloists, as well as a respected pedagogue. Greg Zelek had the opportunity to collaborate with Caleb for the first time in 2022 when he was a member of the Canadian Brass. Now we get the opportunity to share his incredible talent with you all in a program featuring many arrangements for organ and trumpet, such as Bartok’s Romanian Dances, as well as works written by and for Caleb himself. Greg Zelek is the MSO’s Principal Organist and Elaine and Nicholas Mischler Curator of the Overture Concert Organ.
Uniting virtuosity and musical sensitivity, Caleb Hudson has carved out a unique space in the world of classical trumpet. A longstanding member of the esteemed Canadian Brass for over a decade, he has captivated international audiences. Mr. Hudson, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, earned both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School. The New York Times has praised his artistry as “brilliantly stylish.” In March 2024, he releases his debut solo album, “Nothing Less,” a testament to the art of ensemble-drive dialogue. Beyond performance, Mr. Hudson is deeply committed to expanding the brass repertoire. A prolific arranger and composer, his works are often performed by Canadian Brass. His original composition, “White Rose Elegy,” debuted at Lincoln Center, performed by the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass. Currently, he serves as the Associate Professor of Trumpet at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin.
