Join the Madison Symphony Orchestra in a special end-of-year side-by-side concert in partnership with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO), conducted by MSO Associate Conductor Kyle Knox. The winner of WYSO’s 2023 Concerto Competition, cellist Katarina Kenney, will be featured. This single performance will take place on Saturday, May 20 at 7 pm in the Mead Witter Foundation Concert Hall at the University of Wisconsin Hamel Music Center.
Please note: there is very limited availability for this performance. Tickets are $10 for youth (under 19) and $20 for adults. All tickets are general admission. Tickets are sold through UW–Madison Campus Arts Ticketing.

WYSO was established in 1966 by Professor Marvin Rabin of the University of Wisconsin-Extension. More than 5,000 young musicians from communities throughout southern Wisconsin have participated in WYSO during its 50+ years of existence. Katarina Kenney is an 8th grader at Madison Country Day School. At the age of three, she began the cello with Flora Van Wormer through the Suzuki Method and currently studies with Cornelia Watkins. Katarina is in her fourth season with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras and her sixth season with the Madison Youth Choirs.
As the winner of the 2022 WYSO Philharmonia competition, Katarina made her solo orchestral debut in a side by side performance with the WYSO Phiharmonia Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. She has performed in masterclasses for Estelle Choi, Horacio Contreras,Yumi Kendall, Amy Barston, Avi Friedlander and Linc Smelser. She has spent her summers at Center Stage Strings, Cincinnati Young Artists Cello Academy and CSI Advanced Chamber Program. In addition, Katarina enjoys being part of the WYSO Honors String Quartet and the MCDS Science Olympiad team.
