Our opening concert of the 20th Anniversary Overture Concert Organ Series featured Juilliard organ professor and Grammy-award winning musician Paul Jacobs. He performed a series of work by Bach, Ives, Liszt, Franck, and Mendelssohn. Read what our audience had to say and check out some photos!

Hear what the audience had to say…

“Paul’s voicing, phrasing, and coloratura, combined with flawless technique are breathtaking. He is simply one of the greatest organists in the world and I would go to hear him anywhere anytime.”
.

“Paul Jacobs was wonderful. I didn’t hear a false note. The repertoire he chose was more traditional than adventurous but it gave a good sense of some of the organ’s master composers. I particularly liked the Ives. On a side note, I appreciate what Overture/MSO has been doing by way of greeters. There is a welcoming approach, which I think can only help broaden the interest in MSO’s concerts.”
.

“Jacob’s choice of pieces, technique, genius in memorization. Everything!”
.

“How amazingly skillful he was in all of the diverse pieces. A true pleasure to watch. I prefer to close my eyes and let the music pour over me with no distractions but I couldn’t take my eyes off of his enjoyment of producing the music for all of us in the audience.”
.

“Jacobs is an extraordinary musician and performer. What a fabulous evening!!! The music was beautiful, interesting choices which I thoroughly enjoyed. I had the privilege to meet him and chat a bit after the performance. What a lovely person! Loved Zelek’s introduction and the fact that he always causes the audience to laugh very hard. Always a good thing.”
.

“The combination of the Jongen with Greg Zelek in the first concert and this recital with Paul Jacobs made for a superior start of the Overture Organ’s 20th anniversary. Jacobs made full use of the organ and gave us a fulfilling program with a wide variety of musical selections. The performance of the Liszt was a major accomplishment of the most serious music making while the Ives as just plain fun (at least for the listener.)”
.

“We signed up for the series after having gone to hear Greg Zelek (and a guest performer) play last year and both really liked the concert. Originally it was my husband who suggested that we go so I was a little skeptical but really enjoyed that concert so we signed up for the series this year. I loved the range of choices–Bach to Charles Ives to Liszt, etc. I got a little teary at the start of the Bach Fugue–it was so beautiful!”
