Congratulations to Rachel Barton Pine, who was named the recipient of the Cedille Records Musical Partnership Award for her Rachel Barton Pine Foundation. The Foundation was recognized as an organization that has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the classical music community in Chicago. Cedille noted the Foundation’s “support of the Chicago musical community’s most valuable asset — its musicians and composers.” The award was presented by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose son, Jim Ginsburg, founded Cedille.

Rachel began her Foundation in 2001 to provide instruments and instruction to children who might not otherwise be able to afford them. The Foundation’s Instrument Loan Program and Grants for Education and Career reach students across the country and even in our own community! Before claiming top honors in our 2018 Bolz Young Artist Competition, violinist Hannah White participated in this program in 2016, performing 23 concerts across the United States as a soloist with the Foundation’s Arkwright Lady Rebecca Sylvan Stradivarius of 1732.

You can experience Ms. Pine as the featured artist in our October Symphony concerts, Rachel Barton Pine Plays Khachaturian, October 18–20. This thrilling all-Russian program features pieces by Prokofiev and Shostakovich, plus Ms. Pine’s Madison Symphony Orchestra debut with Khachaturian’s violin concerto.
