In October, several young artists competed in our 2021 Fall Youth Concerto Competition. Angelina Chang, an eighth grader at Velma Hamilton Middle School, took first place. She played Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, C minor, 1st movement. Cordelia Momo Fredrickson and Lorenz Fradkin-Annen both received honorable mention at the competition. Angelina Chang, Piano
Fall Youth Concerto Competition Winner

Angelina Chang is an eighth grader at Velma Hamilton Middle school. She has been playing piano since she was four. Her current piano teachers are Ms. Julie Chang and Ms. Lina Lee, and her former teacher was Ms. Jung Won Lim. Angelina was a winner of her age group in the Sonatina Festival in 2016, 2018, and 2020. She was a winner in the junior group at the Honors Recital of Madison Area Music Educators (MAME) in 2019-2021 and was selected to perform at the masterclass with Dr. Diana Shapiro in 2019. She received Honorable Mention in the 2019 Fall Youth Concerto Competition.

In addition to playing piano, Angelina enjoys doing gymnastics and representing girls in state/national math competitions. She is currently training as a USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Level 8 gymnast at Gymfinity. She was one of the top 10 contenders of Wisconsin MathCounts competition in 2019 and 2020 and a recipient of Maryam Mirzakhani AMC10A Certificate of Excellence in 2020.

Here’s what Angelina had to say about her experience competing in our 2021 Fall Youth Concerto Competition. “Even though I wish I could have played in an in-person competition, it was still amazing to get to play with my accompanist in a huge concert hall. It was fun because the piano sounded so beautiful. I look forward to performing in public, hopefully with the Madison Symphony Orchestra!

Cordelia Momo Fredrickson is an eighth grader at Velma Hamilton Middle School. Corelia played Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22, 1st movement.

Lorenz Fradkin-Annen, Violin

Lorenz Fradkin-Annen is a sixth grader at Rome Corners Intermediate. Lorenz played Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto in C Major, Op. 48, 1st movement.
