In September, several young artists competed in our 2024 Fall Youth Concerto Competition. Congratulations to Colette Wiering, an 8th grader from Two Rivers, Wisconsin for winning first place! 

Colette will perform Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso with the orchestra during the Fall Youth Concerts on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 9:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in Overture Hall. 

Honorable mentions were awarded to pianist Rebecca Zhang and violinist Jacob Martonito.

Fall Youth Concerto Competition Winner

Colette Wiering (8th grade) is a concertmaster in the Senior Symphony of the Milwaukee Symphony Youth Orchestra (MYSO) where she has successively won concerto competitions at three levels. Colette was also named a winner in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Bach Double Violin Competition (2023), and earned an honorable mention in the DePaul University Concerto Festival (2023). Colette is an avid participant in MYSO’s chamber program, directed by artist-in-residence Frank Almond, and a member of MYSO’s Bach Ensemble, directed by Ravenna Helson. During the summers she plays in MYSO’s Summer Chamber Conference and attends the Cugnon Summer School in Cugnon, Belgium. She is presently a student of Matous Michal and Kees Hulsmann.
