Tonight, Tomorrow, & Saturday: Infinite Joy
Mozart’s Oboe Concerto + Beethoven’s Ninth

This weekend, we complete our Beethoven celebration with his Symphony No.9, last and largest of his symphonies. The ninth, ending with the iconic “Ode to Joy,” is the perfect work to symbolize coming through what we as a community—and humanity as a whole—have endured since early 2020. Joining the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for these programs are four vocalists: soprano Laquita Mitchell, mezzo-soprano Kirsten Lippart, tenor Jared Esguerra, and bass Matt Boehler. Music Director John DeMain shared thoughts about Beethoven’s Ninth a few moments before the final rehearsal last night — watch the video.

The program opens with a feature for oboist Marc Fink, as we celebrate his incredible 48-year tenure with the Symphony when he performs Mozart’s Oboe Concerto. Discover more about Marc and his career in recent media appearances on WORT FMNBC15, and with an exclusive Q&A with the MSO.

This Tuesday, September 27: Greg Zelek, Organ

“In honor of Franck’s 200th birthday, I open the season with his masterpiece, Grand Pièce Symphonique, which is just as grand as its title would suggest. Join me on this incredible journey as we get to know this magnificent work from one of the greatest organ composers of all time. The program will also include the U.S. premiere of a new, personally-dedicated work by German composer Paul Fey, as well as many selections from my first organ CD recorded in Overture Hall that will be available for purchase at this performance.”

– Greg Zelek, Principal Organist

When you create a planned gift for the Madison Symphony Orchestra in your will, living trust, or other estate planning documents, you will be leaving a legacy of music to the Madison community for generations to come. Over the years, the MSO has been the grateful recipient of a variety of planned gifts from individuals who have remembered the Symphony in this special way.
